The name comes from a Kevin Shields interview where he details an anecdote where a herd of cows came to surround the studio during the recording of “All I need”. He talked about how they got worked up and started freaking out – this sort of clumsy, confused mania and intrigue is always something that I’ve tried to encapsulate in our own music. Very few bands have elicited that kind of trance like state, not the kind of trance that would put you to sleep, but the kind that you’d make a sour face listening to but cant help lending a keen ear to. I believe that all truly great music has a sense of clamor, a slight woozy uncomfort, but which makes you turn to the friend or stranger beside you with a sardonic grin. I don’t honestly know if its possible to be in such a state as the cows were from our music – but I set out to make this festival a celebration of that notion, or at least to revel in the striving for it. So, make like a cow and flock to Whelan’s on the 28th for that good music!
